Fresh Future Kicks Off Children's Hospital Appeal
The Wellington Children's Hospital Redevelopment Appeal kicked into gear today with a large donation of $85,000 from the 2009 Fresh Future Appeal for Sick Kids.
This is the third year that Fresh Future Appeal has raised funds from the public for Children's Hospitals throughout New Zealand. The passion and creativity of thousands of volunteers, and huge support from Supermarket customers, has seen just over $900,000 raised in the 2009 Fresh Future Appeal - despite the recession -increasing the three-year total to over $3 million. We are aiming to raise $1.6 million for the much needed redevelopment of Wellington Children's Hospital. The funds donated today will go a long way to achieving this goal.
The funds will pay for important paediatric equipment - equipment that the hospital otherwise could not afford. This raises the total amount received from the Fresh Future Appeal to more than $300,000 since 2007.
All funds are raised by staff at Countdown, Woolworths, Foodtown, Fresh Choice and SuperValue supermarkets and Dick Smith Electronics through a nationwide raffle and local events which are organised by Volunteers within the supermarkets, including a Children's Wearable Arts evening in Waikanae and a Netball competition in Tawa.
Aruna Gupta of Woolworths Johnsonville also received special recognition for selling the most raffle tickets throughout New Zealand by an individual - a total of 750 tickets.
