Christmas Quilts for Kids
Wellington Hospitals and Health Foundation's volunteer quilters have made over 100 handmade Christmas Quilts and Stockings made for Wellington Children's Hospital and Wellington Neonatal Unit this Christmas.
There is a special raffle of one Quilt, tickets can be purchased for $5.00 on our online Gift Shop or at the Hospital Gift Shop.
This Christmas, Doctors and Nurses expect there to be approximately 70 children in Wellington Children's Hospital, including 40 premature and critically ill babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
"Our Volunteers do a brilliant job giving their time to support our families. The donations go a long way to lessening the stress for parents with children in hospital" says Trish Lee, Volunteer Manager, Wellington Hospitals and Health Foundation.
"On Christmas morning every parent whose baby is in the Neonatal Unit will receive their very own Christmas stocking and quilt together with Hospi to take home. Every bed in Children's Hospital will have their very own quilt also".
Rosemary Escott, Nurse Manager of Wellington's Neonatal Unit said that the Foundation's support of the Unit every year was outstanding and very appreciated. "We really rely on the wonderful quilts and knitted items the Foundation's volunteers produce".
This year the Foundation's Knitters, Sewers and Quilter Volunteers produced more than 7,000 garments and quilts for use in Wellington and Kenepuru Hospital. Items range from tiny bootees, hats, singlet's and quilts for the Unit to bed socks and capes for some adult patients. For many families in the Neonatal Unit, these donated items are the only ones they will receive that are small enough for their premature baby.
Public Display - The Christmas Quilts and Stockings will be on display for public viewing from Wednesday 1st - Thursday 2nd December at Wellington Hospital main entrance atrium.
